It’s not that I want this to end
It’s not that I need more to start
But hours spent alone with a friend
Bring joy to the core of my heart
I’ll treasure each moment
And with every breath
Give thanks to the Lord
And never fear death
I could die happy
Here in this place
Surrounded by beauty
Wherever I gaze
Yes, I could die happy
With you at my side
With no prayer unspoken
And nothin’ to hide
I could die happy
The years slip away just like sand
But our fate has been bound to the Rock
We clung when He offered His Hand
And now in His footsteps we walk
With mercies unending
Rained down from above
We’re cleansed from our sin
And we’re bathed in His Love
I could die happy
Now that I’m free
Death has been stripped
Of its hold over me
Yes, I could die happy
With you at my side
With no prayer unspoken
And nothin’ to hide
I could die happy
These mountains will quake
Sent tumblin’ down to the sea
But no force can break
The embrace that He has around me
And so as we turn the next page
Whatever the future may bring
We’ll be loved to the end of this Age
And of His Glory we’ll sing
I’ll treasure the moments
We shared on that hill
Together in nature
With all worry stilled
I could die happy
Now that I know
How we are loved
Wherever we go
Yes, I could die happy
With you at my side
With no prayer unspoken
And nothin’ to hide
I could die happy
I could die happy
Yes, I could die happy
Summer steams
Sweltering, sizzling
Scorching everything
Stealin’ dreams
Where to flee?
How to escape all the heat
That’s feedin’ these
Miseries
We hop into the car
Packed with all it can hold
Tense and drivin’ hard
Fightin’ traffic that’s slowed
We finally make it through
Along this ramblin' road
The cabin comes in view
And we’re in
Lake Mode
Lake Mode
Back in town
Everyone’s hurryin’
To evade the crowds
City sounds
So confused
None of them knows how to
Simply slip the noose
Break it loose
Meanwhile at the lake
We’re chillin’ out to the max
Recallin’ all it takes
To simply sit and relax
We’ve managed to escape
And we are soothin’ our souls
The cabin is the place
To be in
Lake Mode
Lake Mode
Sittin’ on the dock at sunset
Starin’ at the sky
Gazin’ at the stars and wonder
Fills us from on high
So now we’re at the lake
Chillin’ out to the max
Enjoyin’ what it takes
To simply sit and relax
We’ve managed to escape
And we are soothin’ our souls
The cabin is the place
To be in
Lake Mode
Lake Mode
Lake Mode
The sky opens wide
We’re surrounded by a cloud
The heroes who died
But have yet to don their crowns
We cast all aside
That would hinder how we run
Forsaking our pride
And the sin He’s overcome
We'll run the race and never weary
Stay the course that’s marked so clearly
Yeshua, we run to You
Yeshua, eyes fixed on You
Scorning its shame
You endured the painful cross
Earning Your Name
Counting all this realm as dross
Our True Pioneer
And Protector of the Faith
Now ever near
To revive us if we fade
We’ll run the race and never weary
Stay the course that’s marked so clearly
Yeshua, we run to You1
Eyes fixed on You
Please make us new
Let our hearts be true
Eyes fixed on You
As we run to You
1 Begin adding “Yeshua” and the pre-chorus as repeating rounds (inspired by Brian Wilson’s “God Only Knows”)
Well I’m fed up with my feed
And I can’t take another byte
I can’t get what I need
To try ‘n make it feel alright
The Truth’s denied and it don’t make sense
As near as I can tell
A lyin’ king with brazen confidence
And no fear of God or Hell
These are dark and crazy times
Dark and crazy times
Gotta’ get the Light and let It shine
‘Cause friend I’m tellin’ ya’ these are
Dark and crazy times
Narratives so shrill and false
Surround us with a stench
Spawning hate and brutal word assaults
That are pounded at each trench
Well I could be wrong but I can’t recall
An age absurd as this
When clueless throngs repeat it all
Without a word amiss
These are dark and crazy times
Dark and crazy times
Gotta’ get the Light and let It shine
‘Cause friend I’m tellin’ ya’ these are
Dark and crazy times
As I step outside of time and space
And look back from beyond
The veil is taken from my face
To see what’s really goin’ on
Well the Enemy has got us split
Into these seething camps
Trickin’ us to think it’s time to quit
At giving peace a chance
But despite who seems to be in power
David’s Regal Son
Is returning at this Final Hour
To save His People from
These dark and crazy times
Dark and crazy times
Gotta’ get the Light and let It shine
‘Cause friend I’m tellin’ ya’ these are
Dark and crazy times
Yeah, these are dark and crazy times
Dark and crazy times
Receive His Light and let It shine
‘Cause friend I’m tellin’ ya’ these are
Dark and crazy times
Since I called you in the Garden
You were hidin’ from Me
Until you left Me hangin’
To My death upon a tree
But I'm gettin’ back
I'm gettin’ back
World, I'm gettin’ even with you now
I fasted in the desert
And confronted your king
He tempted with the power
To rule everything
But I rebuked him then and there
Just as I say to your face
Repent and be forgiven in these
Last hours of grace
‘Cause I'm gettin’ back
I'm gettin’ back
World, I'm gettin’ even with you now
I don't want to feel revenge
Don't want to cause no pain
But you know that you’ll be gettin’ singed
By all that fiery flame, yeah
‘Cause I'm gettin’ back
I'm gettin’ back
World, I'm gettin’ even with you now
Somewhere in the distance
I can see your fate
Tremblin’ before Me
‘Cause you waited too late
What a shame to know
That you will never see
What ya’ could’ve had
By simply prayin’ to Me
‘Cause I'm gettin’ back
I'm gettin’ back
World, I'm gettin’ even with you now
Hoppin’ along
On our hike
Singin’ a song
That he likes
Tossin’ that disc
With all his might
It goes like this
We like Ike
Strummin’ a tune
On his guitar
Knowin’ that soon
He’ll go far
Cruisin’ around
On his bike
He loves to play
We like Ike
We like Ike
Darlin’ baby boy
Cute little tyke
Cuddlin’ with his toys
We like Ike
Such a lovely child
Made so right
He’ll drive the women wild
He’s taken the world
By a storm
Now tucked in bed
Safe and warm
Trustin’ the LORD
And every night
We’ll say our prayers
We like Ike
Trustin’ the LORD
And every night
We’ll say our prayers
We like Ike
Hey there, Major!
Don’t ya’ know it’s time to play?
We’ve been waitin’
Here for nearly half a day
See the sun is shining
Everybody’s smiling
Excited just to see your face
All the games to try out
We can’t wait to find out
How you’ll brighten up this place
Hey there, Major!
Open up your sleepy eyes
The world is waitin’
Filled with wonder and surprise
Secrets to uncover
‘N share with one another
Flourishing your mind with awe
Sun on the horizon
Super moon arisin’
With beauty that no one could draw
Hey there, Major!
Can’t ya’ guess what you will do?
A future’s waitin’
With somethin’ special just for you
All that you’ll succeed in
We just won’t believe it
All the ways that you will shine
Scorin’ every season
In any sport that’s pleasin’
Breakin’ records ev’ry time
Hey there, Major!
Now it’s time to get your rest
Tomorrow’s waitin’
Another chance to do your best
Lilting and lovely
Songbirds above me
Serenades summon me
Back to Your arms
Foolishly wand’ring
Life left me longing
Aching to feel You right
Here in my heart
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
I belong
Golden and glist’ning
Colorf’ly christ’ning
Autumn’s first inkling
Is etched in the trees
Then I remember
Winds of December
When I surrendered
My life unto Thee
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
I belong
Silent and sparkling
Snowflakes are falling
Blanketing all in a
Shimmering sheen
Still in this silence
Solemn reliance
Upon all the love You have
Lavished on me
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
I belong
Hillsides are flow’ring
Springtime abounding
All bursting forth in a
Garland of green
Buds on the fig tree
Portend a myst’ry
Hidden in history
Now all revealed
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
Back in Your heart
We belong
Listen all you lovers of Jesus
Don’t ya’ know you’re part of the story?
He has promised never to leave us
We are seated with Him in glory
Raised to make Him real
For all the world to see
How true love’s gonna’ feel
For all eternity
Eternity
Eternity
Listen all who frolic in darkness
Can’t you see it’s all an illusion?
Fraught with perils planted to harm us
Conjured by the con of confusion
Who seeks only to destroy
Lying with each breath
A convoluted ploy
To deny the second death
The second death
The second death
“Listen all you angels in heaven
Can’t you hear the clamor that’s rumblin’?
Time to sound the trumpets of seven
Then to gather all who still love Him
Sweep across the plains
Clear to every shore
For everyone who’s named
To live forever more
Forever more
Forever more”
The photo was taken in July 2024 on a mountain south of Strasbourg, France, as I neared the end of a hike with a good friend who serves as a missionary there. The words "I Could Die Happy" came forth from my lips as I gazed on all the natural beauty. The rest of the song emerged within the next two days.
Lake Mode was started while enjoying Cabin Life with my daughter's family on a lake in Western North Carolina. The title was inspired (with immediacy!) by a shirt that a woman was wearing at a local lunch place. I completed the song a few days later. My daughter contributed the word "ramblin'" to the first chorus. :-)
I wrote Hebrews 12 over a couple days at my brother’s place in Spokane. A few weeks earlier (May 2025) I enjoyed a long-awaited brief return to Israel, where I stayed at the home of a wonderful couple. It included a delicious and authentic Shabbat meal, briefly punctuated by IDF jet fighters scrambling a couple miles away (only I noticed). The next morning at their kehila (church) the sermon (shared in English, Russian & Hebrew) was on Hebrews 12:1-3. The very next day I attended worship at a London church (“Saint”) where revival is breaking out and the sermon was on the very same passage! Just to add an exclamation point, I was sharing the story a couple weeks later back in St. Louis with a long-time friend, he rolled up his sleeve to reveal his large Hebrews 12 tattoo. The Lord certainly has a sense of humor!
The first line and title for Dark and Crazy Times found inspiration in the immediate aftermath of the breathtaking repetition of Putin’s Propaganda about Ukraine by our re-inaugurated President. But there is obviously exaggeration and outright lies coming from many sides here in the US at this present time – and the song seeks to clarify Who is the Ultimate Solution for all such discord.
Gettin' Back (take 2) came about as I merged some instrumental progressions with a much older song that I had written during the summer of 1980 in Seattle -- but I changed the words away from a revengeful complaint about a departed girlfriend to be from the perspective of Jesus -- His final warning to the World.
The next two songs were written to my newly-born grandsons, and the final two were written during my last months in Bellingham, Washington. The downloads include some covers of personal favorites.
