A New Calling

My Son, Drew (2003)

A sparkle came into my life the day that you were born

A lamp that lights my deepest thoughts and shines forever more

My son, Drew

My son, Drew

Your smile comes so easily and fills my heart with joy

A boundless source of life within the beauty of a boy

My son, Drew

My son, Drew

And here you are approaching age

As nations fall and tensions rise

But God is proving all His words are true

My son I give it all to you -- this heart this love this song

I pray that you would walk with me on Earth and far beyond

My son, Drew

My son, Drew

My son, Drew

These are Those Days (2003)

Fear, war, rumors of more

Terror encroaching upon every shore

Though bombs fall around me

Whom shall I fear?

A peace still surrounds me

Messiah is near

These are those days

These are those days

When we will call on His Name

Jesus, our Prince of Peace

Come to us now, that we may be released

Though shackled by bonds

Of a world soon to pass

We're freed by the arms

Of the First and the Last

These are those days

These are those days

When we will call on His Name

Satan, prowling about

Planting the seeds of rebellion and doubt

But you have been beaten

And where is your sting?

Crushed by the feat

Of our Lord and our King

These are those days

These are those days

When we will call on His Name

Father, Giver of Grace

Forgive the sins we have done in this place

Send us Your Spirit

That glides like a dove

To those who can hear it

A Message of Love

These are those days

These are those days

When we will call on His Name

These are those days

These are those days

When we will call on His Name

The End of Sorrow's Road (2003)

Mother, daughter

Father, son

Brother, sister

Holy One

When will we reach the end of sorrow's road?

Only our Heavenly Father knows

Freedom, bondage

Service, sin

Battered, bloddied

By his hand

When will she reach the end of sorrow's road?

Only her Heavenly Father knows

Kansas City Shuffle (2003)

I'm gonna shuffle off to Kansas City

With my Kansas City gal

I'm gonna show her how I really love her

Words alone can't tell her how

I'm gonna whisper things she never could've dreamed of

Man has never known

I'm gonna wrap my arms around her and hug her

Never gonna let her go

"Why don't you take me off to Kansas City

I'm your Kansas City gal

I'm gonna make you awful glad you found me

When I say that sacred vow"

"I promise I will never leave you nor forsake you

With the help of God

I'm gonna prove it's true and shower you with lovin'

Better than you ever saw"

We're gonna shuffle off to Kansas City

We're the Kansas City pair

We're filled with laughter, joyful ever after

Now that we are nearly there

Joyful ever after now that we are nearly there

Christmas in Jerusalem (2003)

YouTube demo

On a night not unlike this
A cry rang out unto the fields
For the first time in His Life
His Eyes shed human tears
But they weren't the last
And there won't be a last
Until He reappears

By a flock of wayward sheep
The weary shepherds heard a voice
"Come behold your nation's King
Who's in a manger lain"
And they worshipped Him then
And they'll worship Him when
His Nation He reclaims

And it's Christmas in Jerusalem
Whose exiled Ruler grieves
And it's Christmas here in Babylon
Whose captives shall be freed

From the stars down to the seas
Creation aches to be renewed
On a dark and snowy eve'
The family gathered round
Though it's painful to wait
They patiently wait
For Christmas bells to sound

And it's Christmas in Jerusalem
Whose exiled Ruler grieves
And it's Christmas here in Babylon
Whose captives shall be freed

Whose captives shall be freed

Commentary

The big event in our family life at the beginning of 2003 was celebrating the joy of my son, Drew, becoming a bar mitzvah. I had then already written songs for daughters Mauri and Livvy, but nothing for Drew. So, My Son, Drew was an attempt to fill that void. To be honest, I’m very disappointed in the quality of the arrangement and the recording, but I hope to improve upon this one day.

As for the last song in this collection, Israel left a lasting impression after my first visit there in September 2002. Thoughts of the nation and her chosen people stayed with me throughout the following year, and I felt a calling to share the truth about Y’shuah, (Jesus) who chose to conceal His true identity from His own brothers, just as Joseph had done so many centuries earlier. By December 2003, I found myself imagining being back in Israel at the moment when Jesus was born, and so the song Christmas in Jerusalem emerged.
